Guests step up to the pod, tap start on the touchscreen, and a built-in HD camera with a soft fill light captures a sequence of frames. A 2×6 photo strip lands in the tray seconds later; digital copies (photo, GIF or boomerang) are shared straight to phones via QR, email, SMS or AirDrop. The whole event uploads to a branded online gallery delivered to the host afterwards.

What is a selfie pod and how is it different from a full photo booth?

A selfie pod is a slim, stand-up photo booth with the camera, soft fill light, touchscreen and printer all built into a single tower about the size of a standing adult. It's the most popular booth in our fleet because the compact footprint fits anywhere — versus a full enclosure booth that needs more floor space and a 2m ceiling. Output is photo strips + digital sharing; the difference is the form factor.

How much space does the selfie pod need?

Around 1m × 2m total — the pod itself takes about the same floor space as a standing adult, with the rest for guests to pose in front. No ceiling clearance issue. We fit pods into hotel hallways, marquee corners, corporate reception areas and school halls regularly.

Does the selfie pod print photos?

Yes — 2×6 photo strips (four shots stacked vertically) on a dye-sublimation printer, dispensed seconds after the capture. Dye-sub means dry, smudge-proof prints ready to handle straight out of the tray. Single 6×4 prints aren't an option on this booth — every print is a strip.

Can it do GIFs and boomerangs?

Yes — guests pick at the touchscreen. The standard mode is a still photo (which is what prints), but they can also pick GIF or boomerang for the digital share. GIFs and boomerangs are digital-only — the print is always a still.

How do guests get their photos?

Three ways at once. A 2×6 photo strip lands in the tray. Guests can scan a QR code on the screen to download the digital copy (plus the GIF/boomerang if they made one) to their phone, or share by email, SMS or AirDrop straight from the booth. After the event the host gets a branded online gallery of every shot from the night.

Is the selfie pod attended?

Either — your call. We run hires attended (a Surrey FaceBooth team member at the booth throughout, working the queue, handling props, helping with sharing) or unattended (self-service touchscreen; a team member is in the area for the duration of your hire so we can step in if needed). The pod's touchscreen is designed for guests of every age to use solo, so plenty of hires run unattended without issue; for high-traffic events, corporate brand activations, or weddings where you want someone running a guest book at the booth, attended is usually the right call. Tell us which you'd prefer at quote stage.

Can we add custom branding to the prints?

Yes — a branded overlay is included on every hire as standard. Send us your logo, wedding monogram, event name or hashtag at booking and it's applied to every photo strip and every digital share. Corporate events often pair this with a custom backdrop and (for added cost) a branded wrap around the pod itself.

What software experiences can the selfie pod run?

Almost the entire Surrey FaceBooth experience library. The Kardashian Glam Booth (high-glam black-and-white studio finish), the Newspaper & Magazine Cover Experience (guests on a custom front page), the AI Photo Booth, Elf Yourself AI, custom layouts and themed overlays all run on the same selfie pod hardware. The only experience that needs different kit is the Green Screen Dream Machine, which uses a dedicated booth.

Is the selfie pod good for kids?

The regular selfie pod works well for kids 7+ who can reach the screen comfortably; for dedicated kids' events the Kids Selfie Pod is a separate unit at a lower default screen height with a curated kid-friendly overlay library (cartoons, superheroes, princess themes). Same compact footprint, sized for younger guests.

How is the selfie pod different from the Retro Pod?

Different chassis, same internals. The Retro Pod sits on a wooden tripod with a shield-shaped wood-grain fascia — visibly retro-styled, looks like vintage event décor. The selfie pod is a slim modern tower. Both run the same built-in HD camera, the same 2×6 dye-sub prints and the same software experience library — the chassis is what you're picking between. If your event leans modern, pick the selfie pod. If you want vintage styling without the price of the Vintage Photo Booth, pick the Retro Pod.

How is the selfie pod different from the Digital Photo Booth?

The Digital Photo Booth is the digital-only variant — same compact pod, no printer. Useful when sharing-to-phone is the only output that matters (some brand activations, social-media-led events). The selfie pod is the all-rounder — prints and digital. We'd default to the selfie pod unless you're certain prints won't be used.

Does the selfie pod work outdoors?

Yes, in sheltered conditions. The pod is rated for indoor and covered-outdoor use on a solid level surface — a marquee, gazebo or building canopy is fine; bare grass or open-sky with weather risk is not. The electronics aren't weatherproof.

How many guests can fit in a shot?

Usually 2–6 depending on how close they're willing to stand. Group capacity is set by the field of view of the built-in camera rather than a hard limit — bridal parties, friendship groups and family piles all fit fine with a bit of shuffling.

Can we add a custom backdrop?

Yes — backdrops are a common add-on. Sequin walls (gold, silver, rose-gold), floral walls, custom-printed branded backdrops, and themed backdrops for seasonal events (we run circus, Christmas, Gatsby and a few others) are all available. Flag the look you're after at quote stage and we'll match.

Can we pair the selfie pod with an audio guestbook?

Yes — popular wedding and milestone-birthday combination. The Audio Guestbook sits next to the pod (or on the side table) and guests leave a voice message after they grab their print. One booking, one delivery.

Can we have two pods at the same event?

Yes — twin-pod setups are routine at large corporate parties and weddings with 200+ guests. Two pods on the same hire doubles the throughput and halves the queue. Flag guest count at quote stage and we'll suggest whether one or two is the right call.

Is the pod height-adjustable?

No — the regular selfie pod has a fixed screen height suited to adults and older kids. For younger children, the Kids Selfie Pod is a separate unit at a lower fixed height.

Are props included?

Yes — props are included as standard. The exact selection rotates depending on what's in the kit on the day. If you've got a specific theme in mind (Christmas, Gatsby, 70s disco etc.) flag it at quote stage and we'll do our best to match.

How much does selfie pod hire cost?

Pricing depends on event type, distance from our Surrey base, hire duration, and any add-ons (backdrop, twin-pod, audio guestbook). Corporate and brand-event pricing is on a separate tier to weddings and private parties.

How far in advance should we book?

As early as you can — peak Saturday wedding dates and December corporate parties book out furthest ahead. Weekday and off-peak dates are often available with much shorter notice. Send your date and postcode through the instant quote and we'll confirm availability straight away.

For corporate events, can you capture guest data?

Yes — for corporate events, brand activations and trade shows we can email-gate the digital download (guests enter their email before getting their photo) and send you a post-event report. Useful for lead generation at activations. Flag this at quote stage so we can configure the share screen accordingly.

Selfie Pod vs Retro Pod vs Digital Photo Booth — which to pick

All three are open-style booths at a similar price point. The selfie pod is the modern all-rounder — slim tower, prints + digital, every experience available, default styling. The Retro Pod is a different chassis (wooden tripod with a shield-shaped wood-grain fascia head) but with the same internals — same HD camera, same 2×6 dye-sub prints, same software. The Digital Photo Booth is the digital-only variant — same compact pod, no printer, slightly smaller hire cost.
